What is it?
The Canada Post 4-State Bar Code consists of a series of parallel, machine-readable, height- modulated vertical bars that are printed on Lettermail, Addressed Admail and Publications Mail and which can represent information such as customer address and postal code, as well as other information such as customer account number and product type. The use of bar codes speeds the processing of mail through high speed and automated mail sorting machines which "read" the codes and sort the mail to their delivery points.

Who is it for?
Typically, commercial mailers who are interested in decreasing their mail production costs and who wish to enjoy the benefits of simplified presort requirements.
How to get started
In order to access the Canada Post 4-State Bar Code software you must sign one of the two following licensing agreements:
The Canada Post Multi-option Bar Code License Agreement is for users wishing to develop Delivery Bar Coding Software for the purpose of preparing mail for delivery by the Corporation. Click here to download a copy of this agreement.
The Canada Post Bar Code Encoding Software License Agreement specifies the terms and conditions under which clients may use existing bar code software and related documentation. Click here to download a copy of this agreement.
Once completed and signed either of these agreements can be returned to Canada Post by fax at (613) 734-6208.
The Canada Post 4-State Bar Code software is available from the Canada Post Bar Code Centre. Once the signed agreement has been reviewed by Canada Post, instructions for accessing the Bar Code Centre will be issued to the licensee.
