Redirected Items:

Publications Mail Items are redirected to an addressee's new address free of charge if there is a Change of Address Notification (COAN) in effect.

Undeliverable Publications Mail - Return of Address Information (Fees apply)

A Publications Mail Item will be treated as undeliverable mail if:

• the Item does not bear a complete and valid address;
• the Item is addressed to a non-existent address;
• the addressee has moved without providing a forwarding address;
• the addressee has moved and the Change of Address Notification (COAN) has expired;
• delivery is prohibited by law or it cannot otherwise be delivered to the addressee.

Beginning January 14, 2008 customers will have two options to receive Undeliverable Publications Mail (uPM) address information as follows;

Option 1:

Register online to receive the uPM address information in an electronic summary and detailed report via email. The $1.00 uPM Processing Fee per address information applies.

Option 2:

Receive the entire undeliverable publication along with a packing slip. The customer will be invoiced the $1.00 uPM Processing Fee plus applicable postage for each returned item.

We recommend customers consider the benefits of Option 1, such as timely access to undeliverable address information, easier processing, simpler reconciliation against their invoice and reasonable price. To register customers provide their email address by completing the online form at canadapost.ca/upmform. For every Publications Mail Item that is considered undeliverable, Canada Post will data enter the address information into an electronic report. The customer will receive an email with a link to the Canada Post secure PosteCS™ server to access the electronic report for each Publication Mail title. For easy reconciliation, a unique number will appear on both the report and the corresponding invoice. The Customer will be invoiced the $1.00 uPM Processing Fee per address provided.

For customers opting for Option 2 no registration is required. We will automatically return the entire mail piece to the Canadian return address identified in the Detailed Identifying Information as described in the Publications Mail Customer Guide. No electronic summary and detailed report will be provided. The customer will be invoiced the $1.00 uPM Processing Fee plus applicable postage for each returned item (e.g. for a 250 g item, the total billed would be $1.00 uPM processing fee plus $2.65 return postage).

Notes:

• No address information will be data captured for any Addressed Admail or Lettermail Item co-packaged with a host publication if undeliverable. No address information will be returned for a co-packaged publication or an enclosed ride-along publication if the Publications Mail Item is undeliverable. The address block information will be data captured only for the host publication.
  
  Undeliverable Publications Mail Items will be disposed of or recycled locally as determined by Canada Post, if the customer chooses the electronic reporting service.
